------------------------------------------------- Friends of Montgomery County Animals, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax-exempt humane organization established in 1974. The main purpose of Friends is to provide financial support for humane animal protection projects, emergencies and organizations. Humane groups traditionally operate on a shoestring. Friends is unique because it fills a void in the humane movement by providing monetary help to humane groups and for humane emergency situations. Over the years, Friends has provided natural disaster emergency relief for: Mt. St. Helen's Rescue effort to save animals caught in the volcanic eruption; The San Francisco SPCA to help earthquake relief efforts; Dade County Animal Relief and West Palm Beach Dog Fanciers to provide medical and placement service for animal victims of Hurricane Andrew; Jefferson County Animal shelter and St. Charles Humane Society (both in Missouri) to aid flood victims in the Mid-West; and annually to EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Service, United Animals Nation) to help animals in natural or man-made disaster anywhere and at any time! Friends does not operate a shelter or have an office. A small cadre of dedicated humane volunteers carries out the fundraising activities. No one is paid. Friends of Montgomery County Animals, Inc. is interested in all facets of the animal humane movement. We are particularly concerned with the humane education, spaying and neutering to reduce animal over population, cruelty cases, adoption or given up pets, the care of injured wildlife, and human-animal relationship, e.g. The Hearing Dog Program. Our efforts have been concentrated in the Washington Metropolitan area, but we also have supported nationwide projects.
During large-scale emergencies, CART volunteers may establish and operate an emergency pet shelter in conjunction with a human shelter. In Montgomery County, pet shelters will be located as close as possible to selected human shelters. Pet owners who are staying at the human shelter must visit and care for their pet during its stay at the pet shelter.

Thank you for choosing to adopt your new family member from Montgomery County Animal Shelter! We’d be delighted to help you make the right match. I
Adopting a Montgomery County Animal shelter pet is a rewarding experience that you will not regret! Not only are you saving a life, but you are getting a forever friend that will love you unconditionally. We are the SPCA PETS SNAP of Montgomery County. We are a volunteer based, pet rescue and rehabilitation organization providing a safe haven for neglected, abused, and abandoned animals. We are a no-kill organization, adopting out healthy, friendly animal companions. Because we are a no kill organization, and we don't have our own shelter, the only way we can take in more pets is to have additional foster homes. By keeping our pets in foster homes, and remaining a volunteer based org., we have no building overhead or payroll costs so all of the money brought in by adoptions or donations is put directly back into the care of our pets. Please call and let us know if you have room to care for any of these deserving pets. If they end up on the street, or worse, they may be picked up by County Animal Control who takes them to the local shelter where they may be euthanized within 3 days if the owner is not found or if the rescue groups are too full. Unfortunately, the majority of domestic animals picked up are euthanized due to nothing more than overpopulation. There is no logical reason for an overpopulation problem, there are many free and low cost spay/neuter clinics, yet Montgomery County euthanizes approx. 2000 animals every month. This is a tragedy and can be rectified easily if people would learn and commit to be responsible owners. We are here to help and to educate the public on proper care and treatment of your pet. Please volunteer in whatever way you can. There is always something you can do to help at your local no kill/ nonprofit pet rescue organization. These pets deserve the chance for a good life. Please help us help them. Spay or neuter your pet.
